What's in a Word?

Now that we’ve all survived April Fool’s Day and the Conflicker Worm, we can take a collective breath and concentrate on all that truly drives the Internet: words; pictures and music.

In the spirit of this month, we celebrate poetry in all of its manifestations.

National Poetry Month 2009 is a great time to rejoice in the glory of words that enrich us all. Take time to visit your local library or go on-line to search out poets who speak to you like a twin.

I leave you with a beautiful poem by Jalāl ad-Dīn Muḥammad, a 13th century Persian poet who left an indelible mark on mankind with his elegant and gentle ruminations, which (IMHO) often reflected the wisest and most spiritual parts of humankind.

I didn't know it was National Poetry Month. I've got to figure out a way to celebrate.

I think that maybe this is so reflective because it in a way represents the universal life experiences we've all had, but sometimes forget realize that we had.

TallTchr -I just found a great site for this month's celebration! Go to: http://www.poets.org/page.php/prmID/382 and click on your state. This will take you to all sorts of activities! :)

Grandslam - I couldn't agree more! The individual importance of words and the opportunity for their reflection in poetry really shines through.

That is one of the loveliest poems I have ever read. And the thoughts and ideas he expresses seem quite advanced for 13th century thinking.

I work with doctors from Iran, and they tell me about their culture, and I sometimes wonder if people know what an ancient and beautiful culture it is.

I totally agree with you Jo!
