Remembering…

Today we celebrate the men in our lives that we have called “Father;” “Daddy;” “Dad;” “Pa-pa;” “Pop;“ “Godfather;” “Grandfather;” "Grandpa,” and the multitude of other names that are special to each individual – these are the men who have raised us up.

Others have said it much better than I…

“The words that a father speaks to his children in the privacy of home are not heard by the world, but, as in whispering-galleries, they are clearly heard at the end and by posterity.” - Jean Paul Richter

"He didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.” - Clarence Budington Kelland

"We never know the love of our parents for us till we have become parents." – Henry Ward Beecher

"Sometimes the poorest man leaves his children the richest inheritance." - Ruth E. Renkel

"It's only when you grow up, and step back from him, or leave him for your own career and your own home—it's only then that you can measure his greatness and fully appreciate it. Pride reinforces love." - Margaret Truman

"A truly rich man is one whose children run into his arms when his hands are empty." -- Unknown

Happy Father’s Day gentlemen – this one’s for you!

Wonderful quotes--can't decide which is my favorite. Here's another one to add to the list:

"When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years."
Mark Twain

Lovely! I'd like to add something too...

TALKING WITH MY FATHER
Music & Lyrics by Dougie MacLean.

I'm talking with my father, he's talking with his son
And I don't need to look any further for the one I have become
He says listen to that curlew that's a sound I love to hear
It's a strange reflection that we look through oh that finally finds us here

CHORUS
In this place where life's heart thunders
In this place where time holds still
In this place of harmony and wonder and values not of gold fulfill

I'm talking with my father across these gentle Perthshire hills
It’s timeless mysteries that we gather to make the memories that we fill
He says don't fix what is not broken no need to find what's not been lost
It's a heavy gate we have to open an endless field we have to cross

CHORUS

There will always be the brave one there'll be the one who turns away
With all too many things left undone oh and so much left to say
I'm talking with my father, he's talking with his son
I don't need to look any further for the one I have become.

Aw ... what a beautiful post. It's the nicest Father's day tribute I have seen yet. And what gorgeous pictures in the video, of daddies and their babies. Heartbreakingly beautiful.

I have wonderful memories of my father. He always called me "Kidlet". He was a sweetie.

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads.

samgillogly - What a beautiful and thoughtful song! Thanks for sharing it with us all!

Jo - Thank you Jo, I too was moved by the photos of the fathers and children, which I thought were set perfectly to the music. I'm so glad you have wonderful memories of your father to treasure. I got a chuckle out of "Kidlet" as we used to call our own two (now grown) - "Kid-cutlets." :-D
